Greetings. I’m Singleman, a devoted admirer of beautiful hotels around the world.
I follow my own aesthetic compass, traveling from one exquisite stay to the next and writing down fragments of the journey as I go.
Today, I bring you a review of Ett Hem, a place I had long been yearning for—a hotel in Stockholm that was, in many ways, the very purpose of my Nordic trip. My expectations were sky-high even before arriving, yet the experience managed to surpass them with ease.
Let’s begin.
Fragments of a Journey
A hotel called “Home.”
The scent of freshly baked cake.
Lace curtains dancing in the breeze.
The soft crackle of a fire whispering a welcome.
Ett Hem is a poem of everyday living.

Quietly settled into a residential street, Ett Hem looks less like a hotel and more like a grand private residence. If not for the small nameplate at the entrance, I might have walked right past it.
The gate is always closed—only guests may enter.
With a flutter of anticipation, I ring the bell. A friendly staff appears almost instantly, greeting me by name and ushering me into the garden.
From that moment on, Ett Hem’s magic begins.

Crossing the courtyard, I’m led into the living room.
I sink into an iconic Scandinavian chair, and a welcome drink appears.
“Welcome to Ett Hem,” she says with a smile, extending her hand.
A handshake—rare in hotels.
But this simple gesture deepens the feeling of being personally welcomed.

Before heading to my room, she gives me a tour of the house—its many living rooms, the kitchen, terraces, and sunroom.
Every corner feels warm, lived-in, and quietly beautiful.
“This is your home. Use anything as you like.”

I stay in a top-floor room where the sloped ceiling makes it feel like an attic hideaway—a secret base.
The fireplace, unlit in summer, invites me to imagine a winter visit.
Out the window: Stockholm’s rooftops and the distant toll of church bells.
In the brass-gleaming bathroom sits “Ett Hem,” a fragrance by FUEGUIA1833.
One spritz and the boundary between myself and this house melts away.

After resting, I explore the house.
Already, I feel as if I live here.
Books, toys, art, flowers, antiques—treasures everywhere.
This is the opposite of the hyper-minimal, ultra-sleek luxury trend.
It’s richness by way of humanity, not austerity.

In midsummer Stockholm, daylight lingers well past evening.
After dinner in Ett Hem’s dining, the sky is still bright.Only around 10 PM does darkness finally arrive.
Soft orange lights glow throughout the house, deepening its warmth.
Guests return from their outings, small conversations spark in the living room, and the atmosphere becomes gently communal.
A night sharing wine with fellow travelers can be delightful—but here, even silence feels like companionship.
This place turns the everyday into poetry.

Back in my room, I notice the small flower left during turndown service.
Before staying here, I might not have noticed such a humble presence.
Yet now, I cherish it.
Sweet dreams.

After sweating fully in the private sauna,
I step onto the terrace facing the courtyard and cool down with a chilled beer.
Reclining on the sofa, breeze brushing my skin—heaven is complete.

The guestbook overflows with travelers’ emotions.
I find myself reaching for a pen, leaving my own piece behind.

Departure time arrives too soon.
This is another one of my homes—my Ett Hem.
I will return.

Overall: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟— 9.8 / 10 Unparalleled
This isn’t just Sweden’s best hotel—it is one of the finest in the world. If someone asks for my favorite hotel, I say Ett Hem. Stockholm is worth visiting just to stay here. Stay at least two nights, and dedicate one full day to doing absolutely nothing.
When you return home, you’ll find your heart drifting back to this house at unexpected moments. Even the afterglow is beautiful—that is the nature of Ett Hem.
Detailed Rating (out of 5)
Value for Money: 3.5
From 6,100 SEK.
It may not appear cheap, but once you experience it, the value becomes undeniable—especially compared with similarly priced hotels in Stockholm.
Prices remain stable throughout the year, with only modest increases in summer.
Accessibility: 4
A 30–40 minute walk from Stockholm Central Station.
Trams and the subway are close by, making arrival easy even with luggage. The neighborhood is safe, quiet, and beautiful—perfect for strolling.
Solo-Friendliness: 5点
Staying here alone felt like my heart was gently unraveling. Some luxury hotels bring a sense of formality or loneliness to solo travelers—Ett Hem does the opposite. Staff and guests feel close, but never intrusive. They exist at the perfect distance.
Talk to your “housemates” here. You won’t regret it.
Cuisine: 4.5点
I had both breakfast and dinner—each so special that I’ll write separate articles for them. One thing is certain: Eat here, not outside.
Homemade cakes appear in the living room, and they are divine. Drinks are available to take freely; for wine and alcohol, simply write down what you took in the notebook beside the bottles. It’s all settled at check-out—an honor system that suits this house.
Cleanliness & Facilities: 5
Ett Hem redefines what a hotel can be.
There are many common spaces—living rooms, a library, kitchen, garden, terrace. But unlike ordinary hotels, the boundary between these spaces and your private room is blurred. Soon, you don’t feel as though you’re staying in a hotel at all. You feel like the entire house belongs to you. This “expansion of self” is not accidental—it is the result of meticulous design.
My personal favorite space was the sauna. It’s private, spacious, and often empty. Dimly lit and silent, it feels almost meditative. After a self-poured löyly, a cold rinse, and a slow warm-up on the central hot stone, you emerge renewed. I went every morning and night.
Hospitality: 5
What truly forms the heart of Ett Hem is its people.
Every time you pass a staff member, they speak to you naturally—
“Good morning, beautiful weather today,”
“I love your ring,”
“That painting is great, isn’t it? It’s one of my favorites.”
These exchanges are warm, genuine—not scripted. They treat guests not as customers but as friends or family.
One of Ett Hem’s clever features is the gate system. The front gate is always locked. When you go out, you must hand over your key to have the gate opened; when you return, you ring the bell. This ensures you inevitably interact with the staff, becoming familiar with one another—just like visiting and being welcomed home. It is, unmistakably, a house rather than a hotel.
Design & Uniqueness: 5
Ett Hem is a renovated 1910 residence designed by Ilse Crawford, the brilliant British designer. Despite the abundance of objects—books, flowers, art—nothing feels cluttered.
Everything coexists in harmony.
The floral arrangements deserve special mention. Flowers appear everywhere, beautifully arranged and changed daily by an in-house florist. Fresh flowers are notoriously difficult in hotels—but here they are essential to the atmosphere.
For Those Considering a Stay
If Ett Hem has captured even a little of your interest, I’m glad. The best way to book is through one of the major booking sites—easy, secure, and often offering the best rates.
